About Me
your Iyengar yoga teacher
|
"Ruth’s method of teaching is done in such
a fashion that you work hard. Yet she uses humor, making the class
enjoyable and leaving you with a sense of peace and tranquility." – Rosie Christiansen,
yoga student

Ruth Ann Bradley is the founder and owner of the Yoga Institute of
Broward, Broward County's first Iyengar Yoga studio. Her yoga practice
has spanned over 25 years, and she has been
teaching yoga for over 10 years. A licensed massage therapist, Ruth
Ann brings her extensive neuromuscular and rehabilitative knowledge into her teaching to students of all levels. She
also imparts
her love of Iyengar Yoga to her students, who find her classes
dynamic, challenging, and complete.
She
is a Certified
Iyengar Yoga Instructor, and
has studied in India with the Iyengar family.
A certified Iyengar yoga teacher is trained in the Iyengar yoga style
and is
knowledgeable about props to use and modifications to make
so that anyone, especially those with injuries or past
injuries, can practice yoga safely.
The certification is a rigorous and difficult
one to earn. It entails teacher training for a minimum of
two years. The teacher learns how to make subtle adjustments with the
use of props, and must thoroughly understand a range of problems faced
by individuals.
Once teacher training is completed, the student then completes a
theory paper and sits an exam which includes demonstration of asanas,
pranayama, and teaching skills before a board of certified Iyengar
instructors. The applicant's "quality" of practice, not just years of practice,
is also taken into consideration before he or she is granted Iyengar
certification.
